PPWR-ready packaging for PFAS, BPA and Bisphenol compliance
At Flexpak UK, compliance is built into the way we source, manufacture and supply food-contact packaging. As regulations continue to evolve, we work closely with our material suppliers and customers to ensure our films and bags meet applicable food-safety, traceability and packaging requirements across the UK, EU and Northern Ireland markets.
Our food-contact packaging has been reviewed against current and upcoming regulatory requirements, including the latest PPWR restrictions on PFAS in food-contact packaging, as well as EU food-contact material rules covering Bisphenol A, BPA, and other regulated bisphenols.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2025/40, introduces new requirements for packaging placed on the EU market. These include rules covering packaging design, composition, recyclability, waste reduction and restricted substances.
From 12 August 2026, food-contact packaging placed on the EU market must comply with the new PPWR restrictions on PFAS. Flexpak UK has taken proactive steps to review its existing films and bags ahead of this deadline, helping customers prepare for the upcoming regulatory changes with confidence.

PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals”, are being restricted due to their persistence and associated health and environmental concerns. Under PPWR, food-contact packaging containing PFAS above the permitted concentration limits cannot be placed on the EU market after the relevant deadline.
As part of our due-diligence process, Flexpak UK has audited its supply base and carried out independent third-party laboratory testing on existing films and bags to confirm compliance with the upcoming PFAS requirements.
-
Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 introduces restrictions on the use of Bisphenol A, BPA, its salts, and other hazardous bisphenols in certain food-contact materials. These rules apply to products placed on the EU and Northern Ireland markets.
Flexpak UK has reviewed its material supply chain and completed independent third-party testing to ensure that the films and bags we supply meet the applicable BPA and bisphenol requirements.

The PPWR will continue to introduce further packaging obligations during 2027 and 2028. Flexpak UK will continue to monitor regulatory developments and review our materials, supplier base and product documentation ahead of future go-live dates.
Our aim is to help customers stay ahead of changing packaging legislation while maintaining a reliable, compliant supply of food-contact packaging.
